The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission (LVPC) and Lehigh Valley Transportation Study (LVTS) are creating the region’s fifth Comprehensive Plan. The current plan was created in 2005, with substantial updates in 2010. However, the economy, population, land use and even consumer preferences about how we travel, buy goods and play are changing quickly. That’s prompted the LVPC and LVTS to develop a plan that combines the former land use plan and Long Range Transportation Plan into a single plan with a new set of goals, policies and implementation strategies designed to carry the region through 2045. This effort began in December of 2016 and will continue until the new plan is adopted in the fall of 2019. FutureLV: The Regional Plan will cover Lehigh and Northampton counties.
For the first time since the region’s original plan in 1964, the plan will combine the long-term outlook for planning social and development issues such as housing, education, equity and land use, with a detailed long-range plan addressing transportation needs through 2045. The merger of the land use and transportation plans enables a more efficient, cohesive effort in planning for the future.
The planning effort is guided by the
Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code and the U.S. Department of Transportation, balancing the needs of the community around these focus areas:
• Natural Resources
• Farmland and Open Space
• Land Use
• Economy and Employment
• Community Facilities
• Parks and Recreation
• Historic Preservation
• Climate Change and Resiliency
• Energy Education

DataLV is a statistical snapshot of the Lehigh Valley for everything from who we are to how we travel to how we live, work and play.
ALL-COMMUNITY SURVEY (2018)
Nearly 1,100 people from across the region took our survey asking them their thoughts on the region's most important issues..
The Cube is our portable four-sided chalk board that asks people to finish the sentence "in the Lehigh Valley, I want." We traveled with The Cube to community events across the region. Here's a record of what they said they wanted.
We held more than two dozen strategy labs about our most pressing issues with experts and stakeholders from across the region.
Here's what participants said when we asked them to finish the following sentence at our Dec 2 launch event-
"FutureLV's fortune is..."
getting the young involved in this process! Transportation.

The group sessions which launched our FutureLV effort allowed for 200+ people to tell us what they thought about the Lehigh Valley's potential and challenges. Larger-sized words indicate topics that were mentioned more frequently.
